Welcome to Selfish Vegan! Here I am, venturing forth into unknown territory, and I’ve decided to share that journey with you, you lucky ducks! I grew up with meat and potatoes, and my taste in vegetables is fairly limited. Successfully picking at a side of asparagus or frozen corn cooked in olive oil makes me feel like a vegetable-feuled warrior, self righteous and nourished by the bountiful earth. These instances have been rare to say the least.
So why go Vegan? Well there are so many good reasons to be Vegan and most of them fall into the Ethical Veganism category. Animal rights, the health of the environment and the worldwide food crisis are all excellent reasons. Good and honorable reasons to change yourself and your diet for the better. These are not my reasons.
Don’t misunderstand: I am an animal lover and and I am thrilled to be giving up the flesh of sentient beings that have been tortured. It’s just that my main reason for converting to Veganism is a selfish one. I want to be healthier. And I particularly want Husband to be healthier. Adopting the logical diet for humans seemed like a good place to start.

Husband
As selfless as they come, Husband doesn’t even flinch when The Selfish Vegan makes him eat unpronounceable rarities and failed experiments like unpressed tofu floating around in tepid matzoh ball soup. If you think that sounds gross, you’d be right.
Big C
Most days, Big C is deliriously happy. There are however, a few notable exceptions. Mealtimes can get pretty heated. She always wins.
Little D
Although Little D is a total love fest, she does not appreciate the pleasure of a nap nor does she have any interest in vegan food.
